“Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity” H. Jackson Brown Jr
Chatting about the concept of time is crucial.

Time is a valuable resource when talking careers.

As the saying goes, time is of the essence.

Let’s Reflect

  • Do you show up for appointments on time?
  • What do you do when you realize that you cannot make it to an appointment?
  • How many appointments have you missed by simply forgetting about them?
  • Do you let people know that you cannot make it to an appointment?

Your Perspective

Now let’s look at it from your perspective.
  • How do you feel when someone does not show up for an appointment?
  • What would you do if someone misses an appointment?
  • When do you give up on a person showing up?
  • Where do you draw the line on the number of neglected appointments you allow a person?

World of Work

In the world of work, punctuality and time management are treasured skills. And yes, a missed appointment can be a missed opportunity. Here are some examples:
  • Show up. A missed interview without an excuse is squandered time for your interviewer who can dictate whether or not you will get a second opportunity to interview. It will give the impression that you lack time management.
  • Be punctual. Whether for an interview or work, being punctual reflects that you have the potential to be dependable, a timeless skill.
  • Reschedule. If you know you cannot make it or have second thoughts about the scheduled appointment, request to cancel or reschedule. This shows that you are respectful, a very valuable life skill.
  • Apologize. A simple apology as soon as you remember the forgotten appointment guarantees a second appointment. Apologizing is a crucial social skill that may take time to ease into, but it will be worth your time to start practicing it. It is integrity at its best.
Can you think of an incident where you missed an appointment and had to reschedule? How did that go for you?

Do You forgive?

I have clients requesting to reschedule on a daily basis. I have no problem rescheduling their appointments because they let me know. Even when they forget an appointment, I am happy to reschedule if they send an apology. Needless to say, once they do show up to an appointment, our coaching session will include a discussion on all of the above.

How do you feel about people not showing up to your scheduled appointments?
